The Boone County Health Department is taking extra steps to ensure business are following the mask mandate.
The health department released a letter saying any business that is found violating the mandate will have three strikes. That means if that place of business gets three complaints or more reported to the health department, they will have 48 hours to make corrections.
During that 48 hours, sanitarians can visit the business at any time without an appointment, specifically looking for people wearing their masks properly.
The new enforcement of the mask mandate in Boone County officially starts Feb. 1 but if there is a complaint beforehand, sanitarians will look into it.
