Boone County Hunter Charged For Shooting Man Mistaken For Bear

A hunter in Boone County has been charged for allegedly shooting a man he though was a bear.

Last Wednesday, 70-year-old Jimmy Castle was hunting on Preston Branch Road. According to a voluntary statement Castle gave police, he saw what he thought was a bear and shot it. He never found a bear and returned with another person later to search and found nothing.

Authorities believe Castle shot a man.

On Thursday, 30-year-old David Green was reported missing by family members and first responders found his remains with a bullet wound. Division of Natural Resource officers believe Green was shot while root digging and wearing a black shirt.

Castle contacted authorities, saying he may have been involved in the incident.

Castle faces charges of misdemeanor negligent shooting and felony failure to render aid.
