The Pikeville Independent School District is under fire from a group proclaiming religious freedom.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation assert they received complaints about the 2020 graduation ceremony for Pikeville High School.
The foundation stated that three students were leaders of prayer during graduation this past summer.
The foundation, based out of Wisconsin, claimed the prayers alienate up to 38% of non-religious young Americans.
Pikeville Schools Superintendent David Trimble claims the graduation is student organized and the foundation misrepresented a student’s speech for prayer. Moreover, student-led prayer was an incorporated portion of the program.
