Active cases of COVID-19 continued to fall Wednesday, but hospitalizations and deaths remain high in the Mountain State
A total of 64 additional deaths were reported statewide this morning by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Since the onset of the outbreak, 3,642 West Virginians have died due to coronavirus. According the Associated Press, 558 state residents have died this month.
Today, 974 people remain hospitalized with the virus statewide. Around 81.4% of the hospitalized COVID patients have not been vaccinated. Intensive care patients account for 298 of those hospitalized and 187 patients require a ventilator.
The DHHR reported 1,496 new cases of the virus this morning. West Virginia has 13,344 active cases of coronavirus.
