A long-time Logan County educator who became a pillar of the community in Logan died Monday. She was 93 years old.
Phyllis Adkins dedicated her life to education and the service of others in Logan County.
Adkins taught kindergarten for nearly 40 years and served on the board of education for 20 years including several stints as board president. She remained active in her community long after retirement.
Adkins continued her work with projects like Christmas in the Park, the Coalfield Jamboree and the Civil War reenactment
A family-only graveside service will be conducted Monday morning at 10 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Children's Home Society and write "WE CAN Program" on the memo line if using a check.
