Southern Enables High Schoolers To Earn Degree Along With Diploma

Coalfield Students can graduate high school and college simultaneously thanks to Southern’s Early College Academy.

Sophomore students will now have the opportunity to earn their college Associate in Arts degree at the same time they’re earning a high school diploma. Southern’s Early College Academy will also make it possible for students applying to the Allied Health and Nursing programs to graduate on time.

The program can save students thousands of dollars and the credits are transferrable toward a bachelor degree.

Students planning to earn a bachelor’s degree at a four-year institution may complete the first two years at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College by earning the Associate in Arts degree.

Early College Academy enrollment is open to qualified high school sophomores, juniors and seniors ages fifteen and older. Students must also possess the interest and ability necessary for success in college-level coursework as documented by their principal or superintendent.
