1 dead in officer involved shooting in McDowell

THREE FORKS One suspect died as a result of an officer involved shooting in McDowell County over the weekend.


County deputies responded to the Three Forks community around six o’clock the evening of Saturday, December 17. A 911 call reported “an unwanted person with a firearm,” according to a statement from McDowell County Sheriff James Muncy's office.


Deputies arrived on the scene and were quickly under fire. Deputies returned fire and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s statement.


The unnamed deputies are currently on paid leave pending an investigation by West Virginia State Police.


No further details have been released.
