Babydog Drawing On Sun., Gift Card Program Ends Sun. & Juneteenth A W.Va. Holiday


Yesterday, Governor Jim Justice said 246,000 state residents have registered for the first giveaway in the ‘Do it for Babydog’ vaccination lottery first drawing winners will be announced on Sunday.


Winners will be notified in advance of Sunday’s state capitol events. The drawing was conducted Thursday.


Justice said the registration for the $100 gift card/savings bond vaccination program for those between the ages of 16-35 will end Sunday. He called the program “semi-successful” with 39.000 residents had signed up.


Justice also declared June nineteenth a state holiday yesterday.


June nineteenth, or Juneteenth, is the commemoration of the end of slavery. The Emancipation Proclamation outlawed slavery in states that rebelled from the union during the Civil War, but many rural areas still owned slaves until Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the proclamation.
