Boone County authorities were on the hunt for an inmate who somehow managed to flee before a court hearing Tuesday morning.
According to Boone County Sheriff’s Department, 31-year-old Kayla Hughes was on the run for over five hours after she left the Boone County Courthouse in Madison around 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning. Hughes had been transported from the Southwestern Regional for a hearing on a charge of delivery of a controlled substance.
“She was brought from the regional jail and the circumstances around how she was able to remove her shackles is still under investigation,” Boone County Sheriff Chad Barker told WV Metro News.
Authorities said Hughes was apprehended in the Price Hill area of Madison around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Metro New reports Hughes has been charged with felony escape.
