Chuck Compton Passed Away

A Logan man known for his decades of contributions to gospel music has passed away.

Chuck Compton died Sunday at Pikeville Medical Center. He was 65.


Compton was a gifted musician and songwriter. He utilized his talents to travel the nation spreading the Word through his singing ministry.


Compton began singing at an early age with his family and singing group, “The Comptons.”


He was a dedicated member of the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville.


Pastor Lonnie Gore said Compton was a devoted family man and loyal friend.


“He was always faithful to God,” Gore said, “and to his home local church.”


Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Maryetta United Baptist Church at Verdunville. Officiants will include Pastor Lonnie Gore, Rev. Barney Goins, Rev. Randy Skeens and Rev. Drew Bledsoe.


Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.


Arrangements are being handled by Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chapmanville.
