Colton Mullins’ walk off seventh inning single gives Logan a 5-4 win over Barboursville

Colton Mullins delivered the game-winning hit with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Logan to a dramatic 5-4 victory over Barboursville. Mullins' clutch hit capped an exciting finish and sent Logan to the win in the closely contested matchup.

BARBOURSVILLE Colton Mullins singled home the winning run in the

seventh inning and the Logan Little League rallied for a 5-4 win to eliminate

the Barboursville Little League Monday evening in the West Virginia Little

League 10-12-Year-Old Baseball State Tournament at Barboursville Park.

It was Logan’s second consecutive game that resulted in a walk-off but the

first that resulted in a victory.

Logan rebounded from a 3-2 walk-off loss to Charleston Central Saturday

afternoon to rally from a pair of two run deficits and remain alive in its quest

for a state championship.

Logan earns a rematch with Charleston Central at 8 p.m. Tuesday night and is

just two wins away from advancing to the state championship round.

Easton McCoy began the bottom of the seventh as the automatic runner on

second base. Cooper Browning drew a walk and Cash Duncan lined out to the

pitcher as McCoy slid back into second base ahead of Brady Cochran’s throw.

McCoy moved to third on Carter Blevins’ single and scored on Mullins’ single

to center field.

Mullins finished the game with two hits and one RBI for Logan, who tied the

game in the bottom of the sixth when Ryker Ranson tripled with one out and

scored on Noah Harvey’s sacrifice fly to center field.

Kent Pritchard had a two-run double and got the win after allowing one

unearned run in two innings pitched.

Pritchard relieved starting pitcher Chandler Grimmett after Grimmett exceeded

the 85-pitch limit. Grimmett allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out six

and walked one in five innings.

Barboursville took a controversial 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth when Hudson

Early scored from second base on a grounder that was bobbled at second

base and ahead of first basemen Noah Harvey’s throw and the tag of catcher

Duncan.

It appeared that Duncan had tagged Early before he reached the plate, but

the plate umpire ruled that Early slid in safely before the tag giving

Barboursville the lead.

Barboursville got a pair of run scoring hits in the first inning when Early tripled

and Brooks Rich singled to jump out to a 2-0 lead.

Logan got a run back in the bottom of the first on Harvey’s single, but

Barboursville answered with an unearned run in the top of the second when

Owen Roach scored on an error for a 3-1 lead.

Logan tied it in the third on a two-run double by Pritchard.

Barboursville starter Peyton Smith allowed one run and one hit, walking four

and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings.

Cochran had two hits, Early tripled, drove in one run and scored twice and

Rich had an RBI single for Barboursville, who also got one hit each from Will

Powers, Roach and Tucker Turnage.

Harvey and Pritchard each had one hit and two RBIs while Ranson had one

hit and scored twice for Logan, who also got a hit each from Blevins, Lawson

O’Neal and Paxton Plumley and Grimmett scored twice.
