A fatal crash between a car and a semi-truck on U.S. Route 119 near Chapmanville closed the road for most of the day on Thursday.

CHAPMANVILLE A fatal crash Thursday morning shut down all lanes of US Route 119 near Mecca Road in Chapmanville.

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded at approximately 8:27 a.m. They found a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck had collided.

According to the investigation, 35-year-old Justin McMillion from Greenbrier was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt southbound on Route 119 when he lost control. The car crossed into the northbound lanes and was struck by a semi-truck driven by 22-year-old Austin Triplett from Jenkins, Kentucky. McMillion was pronounced dead at the scene. Triplett was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for observation, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.

The semi lost its load of cinder blocks spilling bricks up and down 119. The West Virginia Department of Highways worked to clear the wreckage while local fire departments set up detours using Old Logan Road. The road has since reopened.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to deputies.
