Gov. Justice Asks W.Va. Hospitals To Postpone Elective Procedures

Concerned about the rising number of hospitalizations due to the coronavirus, Gov. Jim Justice said officials are asking hospitals to cut back on elective procedures that do not require an overnight stay.

The governor’s announcement comes as the state Department of Health and Human Resources reported the state had a record 597 hospitalizations, with 162 in intensive care and 76 on a ventilator.

Justice said there are 24 outbreaks in public schools with 106 confirmed cases. There are 111 outbreaks at long-term care facilities in the state and 21 church outbreaks in 15 counties. Corrections has 40 active inmate cases across eight facilities.
