NEW RICHMOND   Cadee Blackburn scored 20 of her 23 points in the first half and made 7 of her 10 3-point attempts as top-ranked Wyoming East defeated seventh-ranked Chapmanville 68-41 in a battle of Class AA ranked girls basketball teams Saturday afternoon at Wyoming East High School for its 12th straight win.

Maddie Clark added a double-double finishing with 14 points and 10 assists as the Lady Warriors finished the season unbeaten against Class AA Region 3 competition.

Alaira Evans led Chapmanville with a game-high 24 points on 9 of 14 shooting from the field, however, the rest of the Lady Tigers combined to shoot just 6 of 26 from the field.

Blackburn’s first 3 gave Wyoming East an early 3-0 lead before Evans cut the lead to 3-2 with a basket of her own, however, it would be the last bucket for the Lady Tigers as the Lady Warriors outscored them 12-0 over a five-minute stretch of the first quarter.

Trailing 15-2, Chapmanville went on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to five, 15-10, before Blackburn’s 3 gave Wyoming East an 18-10 lead after one quarter of play.

Chapmanville would get no closer as Wyoming East extended its lead to 17, 41-24, at halftime.

Wyoming East improves to 17-2 and will travel to Greenbrier West Tuesday night.

During its 12-game winning streak, Wyoming East has won 10 games by 20 points or more, is averaging 64.3 points per contest, allowing just 39.5 points and has a average winning margin of 24.8 points during the streak.

The Lady Warriors, who improved to 9-0 in regional play, have won eight of nine games against regional competition by double digits and have not lost since losing to Greenbrier East, 75-52, on December 27.

Haley Fleming finished with eight points for the Lady Tigers, who are now 12-8 on the season and will return to action Monday hosting Class AA No. 2 Summers County.
