LOGAN The Logan County Board of Education is set to vote this afternoon on 26 new, repealed and updated policies.

Policy-making is one of two areas where the elected board has regained authority under the ongoing state intervention. The West Virginia Board of Education returned that authority in February following a progress report from Superintendent Dr. Sonya White.

Three new policies are scheduled for third and final reading. They address signs of self-harm and eating disorders, a Parents’ Bill of Rights and student groups.

The board will also repeal and replace a policy governing driver’s license restrictions. The policy reflects state law requiring schools to notify the Division of Motor Vehicles when certain students ages 15 through 17 withdraw from school, are suspended or accumulate excessive unexcused absences.

The remaining 22 policy updates cover areas including enrollment, school choice, attendance, health services, immunizations, opioid antagonists, chronic health conditions, student accidents, substance abuse prevention, due process, restraint and student and parent rights.

The Logan County Board of Education meets at 5:30 this afternoon at the Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center.
