Logan, Man Cheer Runner Up in Class AA and Class A

HUNTINGTON   Region 4 took home three state championships in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission State Cheerleading Competition held December 9 at Marshall University’s Cam Henderson Center.

 

Hurricane took home the Class AAA crown while Winfield and Tug Valley claimed the Class AA and Class A crowns respectively.

 

Logan High School and Man High School also took part in the competition with Logan bringing home the Class AA runner up finish and Man also finishing runner up in Class A.

 

Logan and Man both missed the state cheerleading competition last season after failing to finish in the top two of their respective regional cheer championships.

 

Logan, who has won two state cheer championships, was runner up for the seventh time in school history.

 

For Man, its was the schools fourth runner up in school history. Man has also won two state championships.

 

Winfield won the Class AA championship with a score of 91.60. Logan was second with a score of 88.72 followed by Fairmont Senior in third with a score of 87.74, Lincoln (83.15) fourth, East Fairmont (81.33) fifth followed by Westside (79.91), Lewis County (77.57) and Herbert Hoover (75.51) in positions sixth through eighth.

 

In Class A, Tug Valley won its 10th state championship and its sixth in the last seven years with a score of 88.69. Man was second with a score of 83.68, Doddridge County (78.34) third, Wheeling Central (77.49) fourth, St. Marys (77.02) fifth.

 

Midland Trail (75.44), Petersburg (74.16) and Richwood (68.61) rounded out the Class A field.

 

In Class AAA, Hurricane won its first ever state cheer championship. In the closet competition of the afternoon, Hurricane finished 0.30 points better of runner up Wheeling Park.

 

Woodrow Wilson was third was a score of 88.35, Brooke fourth with a score of 84.59 and Jefferson fifth with a score of 82.77.

 

Rounding out the rest of the Class AAA field was Spring Valley (81.13), George Washington (79.40) and Musselman (78.13).
