Logan wins state tournament rematch, 9-1, over Shady Spring

LOGAN Four pitchers combined on a three-hitter and fourth-ranked Logan defeated seventh-ranked Shady Spring, 9-1, in a battle of Class AA ranked schools Saturday afternoon at Roger E. Gertz Field.


Saturday's game was a rematch of last year's Class AA semifinals, which Logan won 10-1 on its way to its second consecutive Class AA championship.


Dawson Maynard stuck out five, walked two, and allowed one unearned run on two hits in his four innings. Ivan Miller worked the fifth inning and struck out two while walking one before Ryan Roberts took over in the sixth and allowed one hit with one strike out and one walk. Jarron Glick worked a perfect seventh striking out one.


Roberts and Garrett Williamson each had one hit and two RBIs for Logan (16-8), who has won its last five games and eight out of its last nine games.


Logan led 1-0 after one inning when McCormick Ilderton scored on a fielding error.


The Wildcats put the game out of reach with a five-run second inning. Aiden Slack scored on a wild pitch to give Logan a 2-0 lead and Konner Lowe scored on Cole Blankenship’s ground out for a 3-0 lead.


Maynard added a run-scoring single to make it 4-0 and Williamson’s two-run single closed out the scoring in the second as Logan led 6-0 after two innings.


Shady Spring got on the board in the fourth inning when Parker Brown scored on an error to cut Logan’s lead to 6-1.


The Wildcats tacked on three more runs in fourth on a two-run double from Roberts and an RBI single from Miller.


Cam Manns was the starting and losing pitcher for Shady Spring. Manns allowed six runs on three hits, three walks and two strikeouts in three innings.


Colten Tate was 2-for-3 with a double and Carter Pack went 1-for-3 for the Tigers.


Maynard was 2-for-3 with one RBI for Logan. Williamson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, Roberts 1-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in and Miller 1-for-3 with one RBI.


Jake Ramey was 1-for-2 and Blankenship 0-for-2 with one RBI for the Wildcats.


Shady Spring (14-8) has lost three of its last five games and will travel to Woodrow Wilson Wednesday evening while Logan hosts George Washington Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at Roger E. Gertz Field.
