A Mingo County man was arrested Saturday after deputies said he was caught stealing cable and insulators from a mine property.
Richard D. Smoots, of Isaban, is charged with fleeing on foot, battery on an officer, assault on an officer, obstructing an officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of adulterated pseudoephedrine, trespassing, grand larceny and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Smoots was found on the Frazier Creek Mining property allegedly attempting to steal about $15,000 in cable line and $800 worth of insulators.
The Mingo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Gilbert Police Department and the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.
