Two Logan men charged in connection with brutal assault

LOGAN Two people remain behind bars accused in a brutal attack in downtown Logan last week.
According to a press release shared with WVOW News, 31-year-old Hakeem Chavez Norman and 41-year-old Wilfredo Romos Alamo, both of Logan, were arrested last week and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding following an assault along Stratton Street.
According to City of Logan Deputy Chief of Police Bo Frye, on Sunday, August 2, Norman and Alamo allegedly assaulted 44-year-old Christopher Boren, also of Logan, inflicting what are described as life-threatening injuries.
According to criminal complaints filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, Sgt. J.L. Sheppard and Patrolman D. Cowart from the Logan Police Department received a call from 911 dispatch stating that a male was lying bloodied in a driveway along Stratton Street. Officers discovered Boren with severe injuries to his head and face.
Boren was taken to Logan Regional Medical Center before being transferred to CAMC General Hospital in Charleston.
Officers conducted an interview with Alamo's wife, who told investigators that she had been approached by Norman. According to the complaint, Norman claimed that he and Alamo had walked down Stratton Street to the driveway in front of the victim's residence where Norman allegedly grabbed Boren, slammed him to the ground and beat him.
Two days following the alleged assault, Alamo was arrested on separate charges in connection with the unauthorized use of SNAP benefits. During an interview with Alamo, he echoed the claim that Norman had committed the assault, adding that Norman allegedly took money and drugs from the victim's pockets.
Norman was arrested Thursday on the charges of attempted murder and malicious wounding. When interviewed by officers, however, he laid out the same details of the alleged assault but placed Alamo as the attacker in his version of events. He also added that both he and Alamo had approached the victim and asked him if he was "looking for some ice" before all three walked toward the victim's house, where the alleged assault occurred.
Alamo's charges have been amended to include attempted murder and malicious wounding.
Boren remains hospitalized in critical condition. Officers say they are prepared to upgrade the charges against Norman and Alamo to murder if Boren dies from his injuries.
As of Wednesday, both suspects are being held at the Southwestern Regional Jail. Norman’s bond has been set at $400,000 cash only. Alamo, meanwhile, is being held on a combined bond of $240,000.
