WVU Basketball Wins Opener, 60-53 Versus Oakland




WVU men’s basketball picked up their first win of the season Tuesday night against the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.


Both teams struggled throughout the contest. Oakland would take up scoreless minutes in the first half with out the Mountaineers taking advantage, but West Virginia was leading at the half.


The second half was much of the same with WVU turning over the ball seven times. Oakland turned the ball fifteen times in the second half and a total of 25 turnovers all game.


The pair of Sean McNeil and Taz Sherman together scored 29 points for the night with 17 of those points scored in the final half for the Mountaineer win.


Jamal Cain scored 15 points in the loss for Oakland along with 12 points contributed by Trey Townsend.


WVU bested the Golden Grizzlies with a final score of 60-53.
