CHAPMANVILLE A head on collision Thursday morning claimed the life of a Logan man.
According to Logan County Chief Deputy Michael Lafauci, the crash occurred around 06:30 a.m. Thursday morning on US Route 119 southbound near Airport Road in the Chapmanville area.
Deputies Daniels and Isaacs were dispatched to the scene by Logan County 911 for a Chevy Cobalt that struck a Kenworth tractor-trailer.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver of the Cobalt as 25-year-old Andrew Gavyn Perry of Logan. Perry sustained extensive trauma and was transported to Logan Regional Medical Center. He was then flown to CAMC where he died.
Deputies have determined that Perry was traveling north on 119 when the vehicle entered the median, crossed the southbound lanes and crashed in the tractor-trailer head on.
The driver Randall Pelfry did not report any injuries and the investigation on the cause is still ongoing.
Deputies joined members of the Chapmanville Volunteer Fire Department and the Logan Emergency Ambulance Service Authority responding to the scene.
