2 Dead After Shooting In Logan County, Gunman Killed By Police

Two parents were allegedly shot to death by their son who was later killed in a stand off with police in Mingo County


The shooting was reported Monday around 11:32 a.m. Shawn and Karen Dempsey, both 52 years of age, were identified as the victims of the shooting on Brogue Drive near the Dingess Mountain area of Verdunville.

Logan Sheriff’s Deputies, through investigation and witness interviews, determined the couple’s 32-year-old son Shawn Delenore Dempsey as a suspect. Dempsey was last seen leaving the scene in a silver SUV.


The suspect was spotted in Wayne County and was pursued in the direction of Twelve Pole Road in Mingo County.


Logan and Mingo deputies set up a roadblock near Cub Branch, but Dempsey struck a Logan County cruiser to evade the roadblock and the pursuit continued.

The vehicle was immobilized near Mare Drive.

According to reports, Dempsey was shot and killed after he fired upon police.

Logan County Sheriff’s Department is conducting the murder investigation and West Virginia State Police are investigating the officer involved shooting.
