Prescription medications expire and require proper disposal. This month three prescription take back days will be observed for residents of Logan County to properly dispose of unused medications.

The first take back day will be conducted at the Tracy Vickers Community Center in Chapmanville this Saturday, October 16. A take back will be conducted on Friday, October 22 at Man satellite office of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. The final event is set for Saturday, October 23 at the Fountain Place Mall

All take back events will be conducted between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Residents can discard old or unused medication free of charge during the drug take back events locally. Prescriptions should never be flushed to avoid the drugs absorbing into the water table.

According to the Logan Coutny Sheriff’s Department, approximately 300 pounds of discarded medications were collected last April during take back events. Nationally, 420 tons of unused drugs were collected from over five thousand locations
