Boone County jury recommends mercy for grandmother convicted in granddaughter’s death
A Boone County jury has recommended mercy for Donna Stone, the grandmother convicted in the 2024 starvation death of her 14-year-old granddaughter, Kyneddi Miller. Stone will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years in prison.

MADISON A Boone County jury has recommended mercy for a grandmother convicted in the death of her 14-year-old granddaughter.

79-year-old Donna Stone of Morrisvale was found guilty Monday of murder by child neglect and child neglect causing death in the death of Kyneddi Miller.

The jury returned Tuesday for a mercy hearing and decided Stone should be eligible for parole after serving 15 years in prison.

Without the mercy recommendation, Stone would have faced life in prison without the possibility of parole. She now faces a sentence of 15 years to life on the murder charge.

Miller was found dead inside her family’s Morrisvale home on April 17th, 2024. Prosecutors said Stone failed to address her granddaughter’s declining health. Miller weighed just 58 pounds at the time of her death.

Miller’s mother, Julie Miller, previously pleaded guilty to child neglect causing death and is serving a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.

Donna Stone is scheduled to be sentenced December 8th at 2 p.m.
