MAN Jace Adkins and John McCoy each had a two-run home run and Bo Thompson tossed a complete game one-hitter for second-seeded Man, who beat third-seeded Sherman, 5-1, Tuesday night in the Class A Region 4 Section 1 tournament at William Tootie Carter Field.

Thompson allowed one unearned run, walked three and struck out 13 in seven innings. Thompson allowed a leadoff double to Bryce Mills leading off the second inning.

Sherman took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when AJ Skeens scored on a passed ball.

The Tide held that lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when Man scored five runs.

Adkins started the scoring with a go-ahead two-run home run over the left field fence. Three batters later, Thompson produced a run scoring single, and McCoy followed Thompson’s single with a two-run home run of his own over the left field fence to cap the fifth inning scoring.

Luke Tagilente suffered the loss for Sherman after allowing five runs – one earned – on six hits, five strikeouts and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.

McCoy finished with two hits while Adkins, Cam Gerace, Hunter Gibson and Thompson had one hit apiece.

Man improved to 17-11 with the win while Sherman fell to 9-14 with the loss.
