Adkins, Quick lead Lady Wildcats past Lady Tigers, 6-1, in sectional tournament

LOGAN Myleigh Adkins hit a solo home run and drove in two runs, Harlee Quick allowed one run in seven innings as the second ranked Logan Wildcats eliminated ninth ranked Chapmanville from the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament with a 6-1 win Friday night at Bea Orr Field.


Quick allowed one run on seven hits, walked two and struck out one in seven innings for Logan.


Adkins solo home run off Chapmanville starter Chloe Murphy in the bottom of the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and fueled a five-run sixth for the Lady Wildcats.


Adkins lined a 3-2 pitch over the center field fence with one out to give Logan a 2-1 lead. Quick followed Adkins' home run with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Addison Richardson.


Richardson advanced to third on Ashlin Brumfield's single and came around to score on Addison Brumfield's single for a 3-1 lead.


Kaylee Coleman singled with two outs to score Ashlin Brumfield giving Logan a 4-1 lead and Coleman and Addison Brumfield came around to score on a dropped fly ball for a 6-1 lead.


Quick allowed a leadoff single from Hannah Miller to start the seventh, but retired the next three hitters in order to send the Lady Wildcats into Monday's sectional championship against top-seeded Scott.


Logan, seeded second seeded, must win Monday to force a winner-take-all contest Tuesday evening. A win by Scott and the Lady Skyhawks are the sectional champions for a third straight year.


Chapmanville, who was seeded third in the tournament, advanced to Friday's elimination game with wins over Wayne (18-4) on Wednesday and Mingo Central (12-0) on Thursday.


The Lady Tigers finished the season with a 19-9 record while Logan improved to 24-8 with the win.


Logan took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a run scoring single from Adkins, scoring Lacy Curry, who doubled with one out.


Chapmanville tied it a 1 in second inning when Murphy doubled and came around to score on a single from LaTosha Perry.


Murphy was the tough luck loser for Chapmanville after allowing six runs - four earned - on nine hits, seven strikeouts and one walk in six innings.


Miller had two hits and Erin Adkins, Brooke Christian and Laken Parks had one hit each for the Lady Tigers.


Adkins had two hits and two RBIs and Addison Brumfield had two hits one RBI for the Lady Wildcats, who also got a double from Isabella Propst and a single from Quick.


Logan and Chapmanville split a pair of regular season meetings with each school winning on its homefield. The Lady Wildcats defeated the Lady Tigers, 3-2, on Tuesday to advance to the winner's bracket of the sectional championship where they were defeated by Scott, 8-1, on Wednesday.
