Adkins strikes out 20, Curry walks it off in extra innings for Lady Wildcats 2-1 win over Lady Irish

KINGSTON, Tenn.   Lacy Curry's third hit of the game drove in automatic runner Addison Starr, in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Class AA No. 1 Logan a 3-2 win over Akron St.Vincent-St. Mary Tuesday afternoon in the Ripken Experience at Isotopes Park.


The Fighting Irish and Lady Wildcats traded runs in the ninth inning. MacKenzie McFarland scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth to give the Lady Irish a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Lauren Adkins reached on an error allowing Curry to score sending the game to a 10th inning.


In the bottom of the 10th, Curry laced a single to left field scoring Starr from third base giving Logan its 15th win of the season.


Myleigh Adkins had two hits and drove in one run for the Lady Wildcats, but it was her work in the circle that proved to be the story of the game.


Adkins struck out 20 St. Vincent-St. Mary hitters in 10 innings allowing one run on two hits and three walks. With the win, Adkins remained unbeaten in the circle improving to 12-0.


Adkins started the game with a walk to Ella Kim but struck out eight consecutive hitters before Kim hit an inside the park home run to left field for the first hit of the game for the Fighting Irish to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of third inning.


Logan scored a run in the bottom of the first on a Fighting Irish error which allowed Curry to score the first run of the game for the Lady Wildcats.


Avarie Mays tripled in the sixth for the Fighting Irish but was thrown out at home trying to stretch it into an inside the park home run by center fielder Lauren Adkins to keep the score tied, 1-1, heading to the bottom of the sixth.


Curry and Myleigh Adkins had back-to-back singles with two outs, but Ashlin Brumfield flew out to right field to end the sixth.


Cameron Eckroad (1-4) allowed one run and 12 hits in 9 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and three walks in a losing cause.


Logan outhit St. Vincent-St. Mary 12-2 with Curry accounting for three hits, Brumfield, Lauren Adkins and Myleigh Adkins each had two hits and one RBI, Melody Rozzell had two hits and Lena Setser and Daisy Tomblin each had one hit for the Lady Wildcats.
