Baseball Roundup: Logan blanks Scott; Man wins in extras at Sherman

MADISON Dawson Maynard drove in three runs and pitched six scoreless innings as Class AA No. 4 Logan mercy ruled third-ranked Scott 13-0 in six innings Tuesday night at Scott High School.


Maynard went 2-for-4 with a double and home run at the plate while allowing just four hits, walking one and striking out nine in six innings. Ryan Roberts was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and one RBI and Jake Ramey 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Logan (14-8).


Austin Light doubled and Hayden Johnson, Griffin Miller and Caleb Vance each had singles for Scott (12-5), who has lost its last two games after winning six straight.


Scott starting pitcher Hunter Null allowed seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings pitched. Kedron Elkins allowed six runs on four hits with four strikeouts and four walks in 1 2/3 innings and Vance retired his only batter he faced in relief.


Konner Lowe doubled and drove in two runs and Jarron Glick had one hit and two RBIs. Chase Hatfield had a run scoring double and Cole Blankenship and Ivan Miller each had a double for Logan.


Man 4, Sherman 3 (10 Innings)


Bo Thompson hit a solo home run in the 10th inning to lift Class A No. 7 Man (12-8) to a 4-3 win over Sherman Tuesday night at Sherman High School.


Sherman led 3-0 following a Jared Butcher first inning single and an AJ Skeens RBI single and Jeremiah Noyes RBI groundout in the second inning.

Man got a two out run scoring single from Jace Adkins, scoring Colton Miller, who started the two out rally with a triple, to cut the deficit to 3-1 after five innings.


The Hillbillies tied the game at 3 in the sixth with a pair of runs. Braxton Messer had a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to one, 3-2, and Cam Gerace reached on a two-out error allowing Landon Cantrell to score the game tying run for Man.


Brayden Compton picked up the win for Man after pitching three hitless innings of relief. Compton, who relieved Thompson to start the eighth, walked five and struck out four. Thompson tossed seven innings and allowed three runs – one earned – on seven hits. He walked two, hit one and struck out nine.


Brayden Hamrick was tagged with the loss for Sherman after allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Starting pitcher Jared Butcher allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks in eight innings.


Skeens had three hits and one RBI while Luke Tagilente added two hits and scored two runs for Sherman. Butcher had one hit and one RBI and Avery Skeens singled for the Tide.


Miller had two hits, a triple and one run while Hunter Gibson also had two hits for the Hillbillies. Adkins, Messer and Thompson each had one hit and one RBI and Luke Haney and John McCoy each had one hit.
