GLEN DANIEL Logan quarterback Drew Berry threw four touchdown passes as the Class AA No. 9 Wildcats defeated Liberty (Raleigh) 36-14 Friday night at Liberty (Raleigh) High School.
Berry tossed scoring passes of 32, 30, 4 and 32 yards finishing with 194 yards on 10 of 18 passing.
It was the third time this season that a Logan quarterback has passed for four touchdowns. Jaxon Cogar tossed four touchdowns in back-to-back wins over Wayne and Poca.
Berry, making his second consecutive start, misfired on his first three pass attempts before completing six of his next eight pass attempts.
Julius Clancy had a pair of touchdown receptions finishing with three receptions for 81 yards while Garrett Williamson hauled in five passes for 79 yards and Aiden Slack caught two touchdowns of 30 and 4 yards in the Wildcats victory.
Logan posted its sixth win of the season improving to 6-2 and avenged last season's 30-14 loss at Liberty.
Berry threw a 32-yard touchdown to Clancy in the first quarter to put Logan on the board. Berry connected with Gabe Workman on the two-point conversion to give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead with 4:20 to play in the opening quarter.
Berry then connected with Slack for a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter. The first one, a 30-yard reception with 9:58 to play gave the Wildcats a 16-0 lead after Workman hauled in his second two-point conversion.
With 1:08 remaining before halftime, Berry found Slack for a 4-yard scoring strike giving the Wildcats a 22-0 lead.
Logan tacked on two more touchdowns in the third quarter as Berry hooked up with Clancy for a 32-yard scoring strike. Berry found backup quarterback Adam Baisden on the two-point conversion for a 30-0 lead with 8:29 remaining.
Offensive linemen Cameron Allred scored on a 5-yard run with 5:21 remaining to give Logan a 36-0 lead.
Liberty got on the board when Joshua Bradford ran in from the 3 to cut the deficit to 36-8 following Dalton Williams two-point conversion with 0:23 remaining in the third quarter.
Bradford added a 14-yard touchdown with 10:28 remaining in the fourth quarter to cut Logan's lead to 36-14.
Bradford ran for 156 yards on 33 carries for Liberty (1-6).
Workman rushed for 74 yards on nine carries for Logan (6-2).
The Wildcats return to action Friday night at county rival Chapmanville. A win by the Wildcats would give them a second consecutive Logan County championship and lock up a playoff berth.
