Chapmanville 11th in Class AA ratings, Man falls to fifth in Class A

PARKERSBURG Following its thrilling win at the buzzer over Nitro, Chapmanville jumped four spots in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission Class AA high school football computer ratings released Tuesday afternoon.


Chapmanville was No. 15 last week but jumped to the No. 11 spot after a 44-43 win over Nitro last week at Underwood Field.


Morgantown and North Marion remained first in Class AAA and Class AA, respectively. James Monroe moved into the top spot in Class A following Man’s defeat to Mingo Central.


The Hillbillies, who lost for the first time this season, fell to fifth in Class A.


In Class AAA, Morgantown was followed by Parkersburg, reigning champion Huntington, Princeton and Cabell Midland. Parkersburg South was sixth, Spring Mills seventh, Bridgeport eighth, Jefferson ninth and Brooke 10th.


Woodrow Wilson was 11th, Hurricane 12th, Martinsburg 13th, Oak Hill 14th, Wheeling Park 15th and Musselman 16th.


The rest of the top 20 has University 17th, Hedgesville 18th, Buckhannon-Upshur 19th and Riverside 20th.


North Marion continues to hold down the top spot in Class AA with Roane County second, Philip Barbour third, Weir fourth and Mingo Central and Scott tied for fifth.


The rest of the top 10 has Lincoln seventh, Frankfort eighth and Fairmont Senior and Winfield tied for ninth.


Chapmanville leads the second 10 with Herbert Hoover 12th, East Fairmont 13th, reigning champion Independence 14th, Nitro 15th and Keyser 16th.


Rounding out the top 20 is Point Pleasant at No. 17, Lewis County 18th, Liberty (Harrison) 19th and Shady Spring 20th.


Last season’s Class A runner-up, James Monroe, is slight ahead of St. Marys, who is second in West Virginia’s small school division. Montcalm is ranked third, reigning champion Williamstown fourth while Man rounds out the top five.


Tucker County, Tyler Consolidated and Wahama are tied for sixth with Tug Valley ninth and Greenbrier West 10th.


Sherman is 11th with Midland Trail 12th, Valley (Wetzel) 13th, Petersburg 14th, Cameron 15th and Summers County 16th. The rest of the top 20 has Madonna 17th, Wheeling Central 18th, Doddridge County 19th and East Hardy 20th.
