Chapmanville claims 6th straight sectional title defeating Liberty Raleigh Friday night, 53-42


In high school basketball action, Chapmanville knocked off the Liberty Raleigh Raiders 53-42 Friday night from Danny Godby Gymnasium. The Tigers claimed their sixth sectional title in a row and their seventh in the last eight years.



Following a tentative first quarter, the game was tied 10-10. In the second quarter, Chapmanville jumped out to a 15-10 lead before going cold from the field. The Raiders closed the half on a 15-3 run to take a 25-18 lead into the half.


The Tigers came out on fire in the third quarter and ramped up their defense. They fought all the way back to outscore Liberty Raleigh 16-8 to take a 34-33 lead into the final period.


The game still in doubt late, junior Colton Craddock and freshmen Zion Blevins stepped to the line and calmly sank seven of eight free throws as the Tigers hit eighteen of twenty-two from the charity stripe on the evening,


The Raiders went three of eight from the line in the fourth quarter and four of ten for the game. Chapmanville pulled away in the final minutes to claim the sectional crown.


Sophomore Brody Dalton and Blevins lead the way for the Tigers as they each poured in seventeen points in the win.

Liberty Raleigh's A.J. Williams led the Raiders with eighteen points in the loss.


Chapmanville will now host the Wyoming East Warriors on Thursday night with a trip to the state tournament on the line. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. from Danny Godby Gymnasium.
