Tigers pull away from Trailblazers, 66-47, advance to finals of Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic

PORT ORANGE, FLA.   Jay Brock scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the second half, leading Chapmanville to a 66-47 win over Daniel Boone, Tennessee Monday afternoon in the semifinals of the 35th annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic at Atlantic High School.


Eli Smith added 13 points and Benji Adkins and Dakota Dalton each had 10 points as Chapmanville (5-1) won its fifth straight game and will face Erie, Pennsylvania in Tuesday’s championship game at 4:30 p.m. at Atlantic High School.


Erie (7-0) defeated Apollo, Kentucky, 49-32, in the second semifinal game Monday. Apollo will play Daniel Boone in Tuesday’s third place consolation game at Warner High School at 6 p.m.


Chapmanville trailed 11-9 after one quarter, but used a 14-2 run midway through the second quarter to take a 32-23 halftime lead. The Tigers controlled much of the second half, pulling away from the Trailblazers and outscoring their Tennessee counterparts, 34-24, in the third and fourth quarters.


Luke Lawrence had 15 points and Zach Johnson and Jayden Williams each had eight to pace the Trailblazers (8-9). Connor Carpenter and Jude Hensley each had six points, and Zach Gurley and Jackson Miller two each.


Kai Martin finished with eight points, Logan Hovonec scored five points and Jacob Vance two for Chapmanville.
