Chapmanville defeats Herbert Hoover for fifth consecutive win

CHAPMANVILLE Chapmanville won its fifth straight game and won for the 12th time in the last 16 games defeating Herbert Hoover 3-0 Wednesday evening at Ted Ellis Field.


Chapmanville, ranked 10th in Class AA, got all the scoring they would need with two runs in the fourth and another run in the fifth to win its seventh straight game at Ted Ellis Field.


Jacob Topping picked up the win after allowing three hits with three walks and six strikeouts in six innings pitched. Brody Dalton allowed one hit with two strikeouts in one inning to earn the save for the Tigers.


Nate Gurski took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings for Herbert Hoover. Dylan Schafer pitched a scoreless inning of relief walking one for the Huskies.


Eli Surgoine and Trey Butcher had RBI singles in Chapmanville’s two-run fourth inning and Dalton scored on a pass ball in the Tiger fifth.


Will Bright had two hits including a double for Herbert Hoover and Cole Clendenin and Grant Smith each had one hit for the Huskies.


Butcher and Surgoine each had one hit and one RBI for Chapmanville and Andrew Farley, Will Kirkendall and Braylon Moore each had one hit for the Tigers.


Chapmanville closes the regular season with a 17-8 record. The Tigers earned the second seed in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament and will host third seed Scott Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.


Chapmanville defeated Scott, 5-4, at Ted Ellis Field on March 28 and defeated the Skyhawks, 5-3, at Scott on April 20.
