VARNEY A Mingo County man is facing multiple charges after state police say he struck another man in the head with a firearm.


West Virginia State Police arrested 57-year-old George Harmon Runyon Jr. of Delbarton at his home Friday night following the alleged assault.

Troopers responded to a residence on Dandelion Lane in the Varney area, where they found a man with a large laceration to his head. The victim told investigators Runyon struck him with a firearm following a verbal confrontation.


The victim was taken to ARH Medical Center for treatment.


Troopers later located Runyon at his Delbarton residence. Police say two firearms were located inside the residence. Runyon was arrested and charged with one felony count of malicious or unlawful assault and two misdemeanor counts of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.


Runyon has previous convictions for domestic battery and prohibited person in possession of a firearm.


According to the West Virginia Regional Jail Authority, Runyon is being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on a $12,000 cash-only bond.


The investigation remains ongoing.
