CHAPMANVILLE Class AA No. 10 Chapmanville got a quality pitching performance from Will Kirkendall to defeat Lincoln County 7-2 Thursday night at Ted Ellis Field.
Kirkendall pitched a complete game allowing two runs on six hits and finishing with eight strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.
Brody Dalton went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one RBI to lead the Tigers at the plate, while Talan Thompson went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored, and Andrew Farley was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Six of Chapmanville’s 10 hits were doubles. Kirkendall and Braylon Moore also had doubles for the Tigers.
Chapmanville scored the games first run to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Dalton had a one-out double to drive in in Trey Butcher.
The Tigers added one run in the third inning when Farley doubled to score Thompson from second base to give Chapmanville a 2-0 lead.
Lincoln County tied the contest in the top of the fourth when Hayden Johnson doubled and scored on Gabe Bates’ two-run home run.
Chapmanville regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Thompson doubled to scored Butcher from first base to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers put the game away with a four-run sixth inning. Eli Surgoine scored on a double by Thompson and Dalton followed with a double to score Butcher and Thompson and Dalton scored on the wild pitch to give Chapmanville a 7-2 lead.
Aiden McCloud had two hits while Austin Adkins and Skylar Simpson each had one hit for Lincoln County.
Adkins suffered the loss for Lincoln County after allowing four runs on six hits with two strikeouts and four walks in five innings. Bates allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts and one walk in one inning of work.
Butcher had one hit and scored three runs for the Tigers, who also got a single and a run scored from Surgoine in the victory.
