HARTS According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court, a deputy with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office arrested thirty-year-old Jonathan Patrick Kennedy of Chapmanville.

At around four o’ clock Saturday afternoon, Deputy J.G. Mullins responded to the Bryant Hollow area of Harts on reports of a domestic dispute between Kennedy and his mother. The mother told dispatchers that Kennedy had allegedly stolen a company log truck before flipping the vehicle in her driveway and proceeding to flee on foot towards Chapmanville.

Upon arrival, Deputy Mullins was advised that Kennedy had allegedly returned to the residence and was standing in the driveway. The officer found a blue Ford Ranger flipped on its passenger side in the middle of the mother’s driveway, but Kennedy was not near the vehicle. Once inside the residence, however, the officer found Kennedy lying face down in the kitchen floor.

After Kennedy was detained, his mother told the officer that he had walked up the road and hot-wired the truck before asking his mother if she had a firearm. When she said she didn’t own a firearem, Kennedy allegedly told her “she would be sorry.”

According to the complaint, Kennedy then said that he was going to “drive that truck through her house” as he was leaving the house. Moments later, the mother reported hearing a loud crash outside of her residence and found that Kennedy had lost control of the stolen vehicle, crashing into the embankment at the beginning of her driveway.

After his arrest, the complaint says Kennedy attempted to escape during processing at Logan County Courthouse, requiring him to be taken to the ground before he would comply with verbal commands.

Kennedy is charged with grand larceny, attempted destruction of property destruction of property, domestic assault, attempt to escape custody and obstructing. He is being held at Southwestern Regional Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
