CHAPMANVILLE Isaiah Smith scored 14 points and Sal Dean added 12 points as Class AA No. 3 Chapmanville overcame a slow start to double up No. 10 Poca 56-28 Tuesday night at the Danny Godby Gymnasium.

Chapmanville managed just three opening quarter field goals but none in the final five minutes of the first quarter as Poca closed on an 8-2 run to take a 10-8 lead after one.

The Tigers overcame the slow start with a trio of runs in the second and third quarters to pull away for a 28-point victory over their Cardinal Conference rival.

Poca led 12-0 following Jordan Wolfe's basket with 5:51 to play before halftime, but Chapmanville's offense came to life as the Tigers closed the quarter on a 10-2 run to take a 22-14 lead at intermission.

The Tigers continued that momentum in the third quarter as they started the quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 31-16 lead on Smith's 3-pointer with 5:52 remaining in the third.

Following a Cole Godish 3 to bring Poca within 12 points, 33-21, Chapmanville closed the quarter on a 14-3 run to take a 47-24 after three quarters of play on the strength of four made 3-pointers.

Kambel Meeks scored seven of his team-high 10 points to stake the Dots to an early lead, however, he was the only Dot to reach double figures. Godish had seven and Wolfe finished with five for Poca.

Brody Dalton finished with nine points and Eli Smith and Devon Workman scored six points each for Chapmanville.

Poca, who start the year 4-0 has lost six of its last nine games, fell to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the Cardinal Conference. Chapmanville won its sixth consecutive game improving to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Cardinal.
