CHAPMANVILLE Saturday celebrates 78 years since the founding of the Town of Chapmanville.
Mayor Joel McNeely says there’s no shortage of activities and attractions for people of all ages.
“It’s going to be a huge celebration. We’ll have vendors, we’ll have entertainment, we’ll have things for the children. It’ll be a good time,” he said. “Weather’s going to be nice and pleasant and there will be plenty of drinks, so come on down.”
Town Clerk and event organizer Stacy Bell said the town just recently added new vendors to the celebration, including Saved by Grace BBQ & Lemonade, Polly’s Caramel Apples, BabyCakes, The Real McCoy and Bon Bon’s Ice Cream truck. One of the big attractions this year, she said, is an incoming reptile exhibit by the Zoology Zone.
“We will have Zoology’s mobile science center and they’re going to be bringing several reptiles,” she said. “They’re located in the Huntington area and they’re going to be coming up and bringing their mobile unit. They’re going to have hands-on education – that’s all going to be free for the kids and their families.”
Bell is also encouraging people to sign up for “Chapmanville on the Move.” The event starts at 9:00 tomorrow morning at the Tracy Vickers Community Center and sign-up is free.
“It’s just a course that starts at the community center and it ends at the community center. We did it last year and we have a mapped out, highlighted course that’s on the event on the Facebook page. We’re going to start here at the community center and we’ll circle around, and if someone can’t go the whole length, which is all the way down to the American Legion, they can cut down either street right off of Main Street to make it a shorter walk for them. It’s just a fun run/race/walk,” said Bell.
“We have shirts that are sponsored by Rob Kuenzel with Kuenzel Law and the first fifty participants that sign up for the race will receive a shirt that’s sponsored by him.”
The Town of Chapmanville was officially incorporated on July 11, 1947.
