Chapmanville takes third place in Carolina Invitational

CHARLESTON, SC Class AA No. 6 Chapmanville brought home third place in the Lowcountry bracket of the Carolina Invitational at Ashley Ridge High School in Charleston, SC.


The Tigers opened tournament play with a 54-33 victory over the George Walton Academy (GA) Wednesday evening before falling to Cincinnati Oak Hills, 60-44, Thursday afternoon.


Chapmanville then defeated the North Raleigh Christian Academy 63-56 to win third place in the tournament.


The Tigers are 6-1 on the year and return home to face Wayne on Friday.


Chapmanville 54, George Walton Academy (GA) 33: Brody Dalton scored a game-high 20 points to lead Chapmanville to an opening round win over George Walton Academy.


The Tigers trailed the Bulldogs 9-6 after one quarter of play and trailed 18-17 at halftime.


Chapmanville outscored their counterparts from Macon, GA 37-15 in the second half for its fifth victory of the year.


Reese Gelsthorpe led George Walton with 13 points and Ethan Richards finished with nine points.


Sal Dean finished with 14 points and Zion Blevins had six for the Tigers.

Cincinnati Oak Hills 60, Chapmanville 44: Cincinnati Oak Hills (Ohio) broke open a close game outscoring Chapmanville 38-24 in the second half.


The Tigers trailed 10-4 after one quarter and closed the gap to two, 22-20, at halftime.


Jaxon Schreiber led all scorers with 26 points and Trenton Murphy added 13 for the Highlanders.


Zion Blevins led Chapmanville with 21 points and Sal Dean added 15.

Chapmanville 63, North Raleigh Christian Academy 56: For the third straight game, Chapmanville trailed after one quarter of play.


The Tigers trailed 15-14 after one quarter but outscored the Knights 32-22 in the second and third quarters and then hold off a fourth quarter rally.


Zion Blevins scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Tigers. Sal Dean added 20 points and Devon Workman seven for the victorious Tigers.


Mykal Williams led North Raleigh with 23 points while Parker Hodgson added 16 and Soren Grandy-Richardson seven for the Knights.
