HURRICANE Youth was served Wednesday afternoon as Cabell Midland won a golf tri-match with Chapmanville and Hurricane at the Sleepy Hollow Golf Course.

Cabell Midland, last season’s Class AAA champions, shot a team round of 2-over 146 and finished one stroke ahead of Hurricane while Chapmanville was 14 shots back, but youth was the story of the day as four underclassmen golfer sweep the top four spots and claimed six of the 10 finishers, including ties, Wednesday afternoon.

The top four individual golfers shot under par led by Hurricane sophomore Parker O’Dell, who shot a 3-under 33 to finish one shot ahead of Cabell Midland sophomore Wyatt Maynard to claim individual medalist honors.

O’Dell eagled on the second and birdied the third before bogeying two of the next three holes before rebounding to record birdies on two of his final three holes.

Maynard played a bogey-free round, registering two birdies, to shoot a 2-under 34. Hurricane sophomore Isaac Hayes and Cabell Midland junior Andrew James tied for third at 1-under.

Including ties, seven of the top 10 individual golfers were from Hurricane and shot 40 or better, however, Cabell Midland placed three golfers in the top five, who shot 37 or better to claim the team win.

Chapmanville placed two golfers in the top 10 led by senior Cameron Wooten. Wooten shot a 1-over 37 to tie for fifth while senior Justus Mann carded a 3-over 39 to finish in a seventh-place tie.

Chapmanville shot 16-over for a team total of 162. Senior Gavin Stollings tied for 13th after a 5-over 41. Another Tiger senior Isaac Walters finished with a round of 45 (+9) to finish 17th.

Freshman Cooper Evans tied for 18th after carding a 10-over 46 and sophomore Zeke Tiller finished with an 11-over 47 to tie for 21st.
