WILLIAMSON A Mingo County jury convicted the man accused of killing a West Virginia State Trooper.
Jurors returned a verdict on Monday (5/18/26) finding Timothy Kennedy guilty on all counts in the shooting death of West Virginia State Police Sgt. Cory Maynard.
Trooper Maynard was shot and killed in what investigators described as an ambush attack in June 2023 while responding to a previous shooting incident, in which Kennedy shot a civilian, Benjamin Baldwin. He survived and testified during the trial.
Kennedy was convicted on first degrees murder, robbery, first degree disarming a law enforcement officer and two counts of first degree attempted murder.
Jurors deliberated for less than an hour. The jury also recommended no mercy. Kennedy faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he is sentenced July second.
