Charleston Central eliminates Logan from Little League Baseball State Tournament

BARBOURSVILLE Ty Testman had two hits, drove in two runs and scored
two runs Tuesday night as Charleston Central Little League defeated Logan
Little League 8-4 at Barboursville Park to stay alive in the West Virginia Little
League 10-12-Year-Old Baseball State Tournament.
Charleston Central will face Mineral County Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in
the losers’ bracket finals of the Herd bracket.
Mineral County defeated Charleston Central, 3-2, Sunday afternoon. The
winner will face Mountaineer bracket champion Shady Spring Thursday
afternoon at 5 p.m. in one of two state semifinals.
Sawyer Lewis earned the win after striking out six and walking two in 2 1/3
innings. Charleston Central elected to pull Lewis after 50 pitches in hopes of
saving him for Thursday’s state semifinal should they beat Mineral County.
Logan starting pitcher Colton Mullins matched Lewis pitch for pitch through
two innings until Charleston Central plated two unearned runs in the third
inning.
Testman scored on a passed ball on a dropped third strike for a 1-0 lead and
Cruz Ferrell scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Testman singled in the fourth inning to put Charleston Central up 3-0.
Hitless through three innings, Logan’s got its first hit when Chandler Grimmett
singled following a Paxton Plumley leadoff walk to fuel a two-run rally.
Ryker Ranson grounded out to second base allowing Plumley to score and
trim the deficit to 3-1. One batter later, Kent Pritchard reached on an error to
bring home Grimmett and bring Logan within one run.
Cooper Browning led off the Logan fifth with a single and was sacrificed to
second base, but left stranded in scoring position to end the inning.
Charleston Central crossed the plate five times in the top of the sixth. Caleb
Plumley started the scoring with an RBI double, Testman followed with a
single, Harper was hit by the pitch, Lewis drove in a run with a fielders’ choice
and Ferrell scored on an error.
Logan fought until the final out scoring twice with two outs in bottom of the
sixth. Grimmett doubled and scored on a passed ball and Pritchard singled to
plate Ranson with Logan’s final run.
Plumley had two hits and one RBI for Charleston Central. Lewis had one hit
and drove in one run while Ferrell had one hit and scored twice Levi Hill had
one hit. Harper had one RBI and KJ Jackfert scored two runs.
Grimmett had two hits, including a double and scored twice for Logan.
Pritchard had one hit and drove in two runs, Browning had one hit and
Ranson one RBI.
Six teams remain in contention to represent West Virginia in the upcoming
Little League Southeast Region in Warner Robbins, Georgia.
Shady Spring defeated St. Albans, 2-1 to win the Mountaineer bracket and
Bridgeport defeated Mineral County, 3-0 to win the Herd bracket.
Shady Spring and Bridgeport advance to Thursday’s championship bracket
where they await the runners-up.
In Tuesday’s other elimination contest, Jefferson defeated Huntington, 9-3, in
the Mountaineer bracket and will face St. Albans with the winner facing
Bridgeport Thursday at 8 p.m.
The two winners will met in Friday’s state championship at a time to be
determined.
