AMHERSTDALE Chief Deputy Michael LaFauci says deputies were called to the Amherstdale area on Wednesday to respond to an animal cruelty complaint.
According to a press release from the Logan County Sheriff's Office, when officers arrived, they were told by one resident that a neighbor had used a club-like weapon and hit a dog with it several times, causing life threatening injuries.
During an investigation, police say they learned of several nuisance complaints that had been reported to the Logan County Humane Officer regarding this particular animal. Throughout the day, the dog had been accused of attacking other animals in the neighborhood.
Following interviews with multiple nearby residents, officers say they received conflicting reports as to how aggressive the animal had actually been.
The press release says the dog later succumbed to its injuries.
After a follow-up with the Logan County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, police say criminal charges are expected.
No names have been officially released in connection with this case.
