Fast start carries Lady Tigers past South Charleston

CHAPMANVILLE Chapmanville scored the first eight points of the game and withstood a challenge from South Charleston as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Black Eagles 45-30 Wednesday night at Danny Godby Gymnasium.
South Charleston closed the gap to four points, 15-11, after one quarter of play and trimmed the deficit to two, 15-13, when Landyn Brisco-Lambert scored the first bucket of the second quarter.
The Lady Tigers closed the half on an 11-3 run and led by 10 points, 26-16, at halftime. The Lady Black Eagles got within seven points, 32-25, on Annaniesha Johnson's 3-pointer, but Daizi Farley buried a 3-pointer just before the third quarter buzzer sounded to give Chapmanville a 10-point lead, 35-25, after three quarters.
South Charleston scored the first basket of the game to pull within eight points but could get no closer as Chapmanville finished the quarter on a 10-3 run, holding the Lady Black Eagles without a field goal for nearly six and a half minutes.
Farley led all scorers with 19 points and Haley Fleming added 13 for Chapmanville, who remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 3-0.
Jada Satterfield and Watson led South Charleston with seven points each and Johnson added six points for the Lady Black Eagles, who lost for the first time this season and are now 1-1 on the year.
Chapmanville made 13 field goals, including eight 3-pointers and was 11 of 18 from the free throw line. South Charleston connected on 12 field goals, but only three 3-pointers and were 3 of 5 from the charity stripe.
South Charleston returns to the hardwood Friday evening as they travel to Spring Valley to take on the second-ranked Class AAAA Lady Timberwolves. Chapmanville will host Greenbrier East Saturday afternoon in the Bob Runyon Memorial.
