Fatal Car Crash On WV Route 44 Tues. Morning



Charges are pending after a fatal head-on collision in Logan County Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred in the Micco area of Route 44 at eleven o’clock Tuesday morning.


A total of six people, four in one vehicle and two in the other, were entrapped and needed extricated. According to a press release from the Logan County Sheriff’s Department. All six patients were transported to Logan Regional Medical Center with various traumatic injuries.


According to Corporal Crum of the sheriff’s office, the investigation has determined that 24-year-old Joshua Akers was traveling south on WV 44 when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound vehicle driven by Pamela Chapman.


27-year-old Shawn Chapman, a passenger in the northbound vehicle, died Tuesday evening from injuries sustained in the crash.

Crum alleged evidence of drug use was found in the vehicle operated by Akers.


The investigation is ongoing.

Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies, Main Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Logan Fire Department responded to the scene.
