Updated: Jan 28, 2022

A man died from an early morning fire in the City of Logan Thursday.

Multiple crews battled a fully engulfed house fire on Pine Street that was reported just after midnight.

“A three story, huge structure in close proximity to other structures,” City of Logan Fire Chief Scott Beckett told WVOW News. “We ended up with a real long night in extremely cold temperatures.”

Beckett said crews could see the glow from the fire as they left the station at city hall and knew it was a big fire.

Crews from the City of Logan and Cora fire departments battled the blaze for twelve hours.

The remains of a man were discovered in the debris. No other injuries were reported.

“The bad part about it,” Beckett said, “we did have a fatality in this fire. It’s someone in our community. It’s hard to deal with. It’s hard on the men with the temperatures and it’s extra hard when there is a fatality.”

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

A cause of the fire has not been determined.

UPDATE: 5:00 p.m. 1/27/22
