Five Logan pitchers combine on a three-hitter in 13-3 win over county rival Man

LOGAN Logan Wildcat starting pitcher Jarron Glick and four relievers combined on a three-hitter as Class AA No. 1 Logan (9-7) snapped a two-game losing streak with a 13-3 five-inning mercy rule win over Class A No. 5 Man (9-6) Saturday afternoon at Roger E. Gertz Field.


Glick was the winning pitcher after pitching the first inning in which he gave up one hit, struck out one and walked one. Ryan Roberts pitched the second inning and struck out one in his only inning on the mound. Konner Lowe struck out two batters in his lone inning of relief. Ivan Miller walked one and struck one in one inning and Aiden Slack allowed three runs- two earned – in one inning on two hits, striking out two, walking one and hitting one.


Logan led 1-0 after one inning following Dawson Maynard's solo home run over the left field fence off Man starter Bo Thompson.


Thompson settled down after the home run and struck out five batters and allowed three hits through the first two innings to keep Man in the contest.


Logan broke the game open in the third inning. The Wildcats sent 11 batters to the plate, scored seven runs on four hits and took advantage of two Hillbilly errors in the field.


Garrett Williamson's run-scoring single scored courtesy runner McCormick Ilderton to give Logan a 2-0 lead. Following an intentional walk to Slack to load the bases, Miller came through with a two-run double to score Dawson Quick and Chase Hatfield to make it 4-0.


Glick had an RBI single to score Slack to extend Logan's lead to 5-0. Miller scored on an error and Roberts scored on Cole Blankenship's sacrifice fly to make it 7-0 Jake Ramey's single scored Glick with the final run of the inning to extend the lead to 8-0.


Aiden Slack's two-run single in the fourth scored Williamson and Lowe to give Logan a 10-0 lead.


Man wouldn't back down and plated three two out runs in the fifth to trim the deficit to 10-3. Pinch hitter Hunter Gibson had a two-run single scoring Gavyn Cline and John McCoy. Gibson advanced to second and third on a pair of Slack wild pitches and scored on a double steal when Jace Adkins stole second allowing Gibson to steal home on the throw down to second base.


Logan scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to enforce the 10-run mercy rule. Williamson's single scored Cross Conn with Logan's 11th run of the afternoon. Drew Berry scored on a pass ball to make it 12-3 and Williamson scored on a wild pitch to give Logan a 13-3 win.


Williamson was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and one RBI at the plate for Logan. Maynard was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Glick finished 2-for-2 at the plate with one RBI.


Miller had a two-run double, Ramey a run-scoring single and Blankenship a run-scoring sacrifice fly while Lowe had one hit for the Wildcats.


Thompson took the loss for Man after allowing eight runs - four earned - on six hits in 2 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three. Braxton Messer pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief allowing two runs on three hits and one walk. Landon Cantrell allowed three runs on two hits with two walks in 1/3 inning and Cam Gerace walked one in 1/3 inning.


Gibson had a two-run single and McCoy and Thompson each had one hit for Man.


Logan returns to the diamond Monday evening at Poca for a 6 p.m. contest while Man will host the hottest team in Class AA, second-ranked Chapmanville on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at William Tootie Carter Field.
