Former WVU Athletic Director Dr. Leland Byrd died Wednesday at the age of 94.
Byrd served as the the Mountaineers AD from 1972 – 1979 and coach basketball for Glenville State from ‘55 to ‘66. He served as the AD at Glenville and was inducted into their athletic hall of fame in 2012.
Byrd was a 6-foot-3 guard and thousand point scorer for the Mountaineers earning All-America status as a junior in 1947.
He was inducted in the WVU Sports Hall of Fame in 1991
