Four Wildcat golfers finish in top five, Logan wins by 18 strokes

CHAPMANVILLE Four Logan High School golfers finished in the top five Monday afternoon guiding the Wildcats to an 18-shot win in a quad match at the Logan Country Club.


Six of the seven golfers finished in the top 14 leading the Wildcats to a comfortable win. Logan fired a 16-over par 156 to finish 18 shots ahead of second place St. Albans, who carded a 34-over par 174.


Chapmanville’s junior varsity squad and Sherman tied for third after both registered a 53-over par 193.


Junior Kevin Farmer led the way for the Wildcats, finishing with a one-over par 36 to claim individual medalist honors by two strokes over his teammate, junior Adex Martin, who carded a three-over par 38.


Logan junior Crew Blankenship and St. Albans senior Chris Savageot tied for third after shooting a four-over par 39 followed by three golfers; Logan junior Alton Ellis, St. Albans senior Zach Rein and Sherman senior Gunner Wall, all of whom recorded an eight-over par 43 to tie for fifth.


Chapmanville senior Drake Dickerson and junior Colton Thompson were the highest finishing Tigers, both shooting a 10-over par 45 to share eighth place honors with St. Albans senior Holden Young.


Logan sophomore Landon Hall tied for 12th after firing a 12-over par 47. Sophomore Chase Butcher tied Chapmanville freshman Nate Farley for 14th after both shot a 14-over par 49.


Chapmanville freshman Gracin Barker carded a 15-over par 50 to finish 17th, Logan sophomore Evan Porter was 19th after an 18-over par 53 and Chapmanville freshman Chance Workman came home 20th after his 19-over par 54.


Two other Chapmanville golfers, freshmen Jacob Farley and Jonah Farley, also competed in Monday’s quad match. Jacob carded a 28-over par 63 and Jonah a 35-over par 70 to finish 25th and 26th respectively.


Logan winners of three straight matches will look to continue their winning ways when they hit the course September 22 in a quad match with Chapmanville, Sherman and Sissonville at the Logan Country Club.
