Frye tosses five touchdowns, Brinegar catches three in Scott's 40-7 win over Chapmanville

CHAPMANVILLE Matt Frye threw five first half touchdown passes- three of them to Carson Brinegar- as Class AA co-No. 5 Scott defeated 11th ranked Chapmanville 40-7 last Friday night at Barker Stadium.


Frye completed 19 of 26 passes for 378 yards and was intercepted once while Brinegar hauled in nine receptions for 173 yards.


Scott (5-0) had 489 total yards and scored all of its 40 points in the first half. Frye added 33 yards on four carries and one touchdown and Preston Cooper carried the ball seven times for 53 yards.


Andrew Topping scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter for Chapmanville’s lone touchdown as the Tigers were held to 174 total yards.


Robert Cook was 9 of 19 passing for 81 yards and Preston Kovach rushed for 29 yards on five carries, Cook ran for 25 yards on 12 carries and Eli Pridemore added 24 yards on five attempts for the Tigers (3-2).


Austin Adkins hauled in five receptions for 33 yards and Topping had one catch for 32 yards for Chapmanville, who has lost three straight games to Scott.


Scott scored 13 points in the opening quarter as Frye scored on a 7-yard run and tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Bush.


The Skyhawks erupted for 27 second quarter points with Frye throwing touchdown strikes of 13, 64 and 11 yards to Brinegar and a 59-yard touchdown pass to Jax McCarty.
